Ace Frehley @ The Canyon Agoura Hills – 11/16/2019
Ace Frehley played The Canyon in Agoura Hills on Saturday November 16 to what appeared to be a SOLD-OUT house. The Canyon is located in a shopping center in Agoura Hills with great parking and convenient venue to see a show with a wide floor, great stage lighting and razor sharp sound.
Ace opened up the show with “Rip It Out” from his 1978 solo album then into the KISS classic “Parasite”. A re-vamped band from earlier years, Ace is touring with two additional guitar players Ryan Cook and Jeremy Asbrock, Phil Shouse on bass and old friend Matt Starr on drums. A solid lineup that did justice to all the music. Songs were also played from Frehley’s Comet and major focus on the usual KISS favorites. Missing were songs from his most recent releases this decade, Anomoly, Space Invader, Origins Vol I and last year’s release Spaceman. Ace clearly knows what the Rock Soldiers are there to see and hear, and the audience reaction to his classics is always loyal and close to rabid.
What would an Ace Frehley show be without the smoking guitar solo – YES he ripped out a blazing solo just as he did in the old days with his guitar emitting smoke like his fingers were creating it.
The encore consisted of “Detroit Rock City” with Ace giving credit to the songwriter Paul Stanley and the city it was named for followed with one of the most powerful renditions of “Deuce” this reviewer has ever heard. As the end of the KISS dynasty is approaching we hope Ace continues the legacy without ever having a farewell tour.
