Adam Ant, glam punk rocker and new wave style icon, performed his best hits and a handful of mostly unknown singles at Humphrey’s By The Bay in San Diego on Sunday July 29 for his Anthems: The Singles Tour 2018. The age-defying musician played for almost two hours at the iconic bayside venue.

Fans lined up before the show to strut their very own feathers, literally, they wore feathers in their hair as well as leather pants, studded belts, and artfully placed face paint. And they danced . . . they danced pressing themselves closer and closer to the stage to absorb Ant’s energy. Security guards had to gently remind the fans time and time again to step back away from the stage. One woman, holding up a tattered vinyl copy of Kings of the Wild Frontier, tried to shove the record up to Ant, but he just gave her a slightly dismissive look and continued to parade across the stage. I suppose a swashbuckling singer isn’t meant to break his strut.

Musical highlights included “Ant Music,” “Vive Le Rock,” “Prince Charming,” “Strip,” and “Goody Two Shoes.”
