Aesthetic Perfection @ The Regent Theater – 12/31/2017
Das Bunker threw one hell of a New Years’ Eve bash at The Regent Theater in Los Angeles that included Aesthetic Perfection, VNV Nation, and DJs spinning industrial jams. Aesthetic Perfection started the festivities at 9:15pm sharp, and the party did not stop until three in the morning, with the DJ sets closing out the night.
In case you have never heard, or come across previous coverage of Aesthetic Perfection, let this photojournalist be your guide. The group is an Industrial Pop duo spearheaded by the one and only Daniel Graves. In this day and age, what really sets these guys apart is that they are 100% independent. They operate without a record label and do everything on their own. That is commendable, and should be inspiring for any up-and-coming musicians that look up to them.
Graves coined the term “Industrial Pop” himself, in an effort to break the molds of the music industry. He is one of the most charismatic and interactive frontmen in the game, and on NYE that energy was in full swing. Graves’ partner in crime, Tim Van Horn, was barely containable behind his drum kit, standing (and sometimes on top of it) more than being constrained at the back of the stage. A few songs into their set, Van Horn threw a box of NYE noise makers out from behind the drums, and Graves tossed them out into the crowd. Just when the Perfectionists in attendance thought they could not have conceived a more perfect way to end 2017, the band brought Nyxx up on stage to help them out with their latest single, “Rhythm + Control.” After the wonderful surprise, Aesthetic Perfection ended their set with “The New Black,” and thus ended their final 2017 performance.
