Arcade Fire @ Sleep Train Amphitheatre – 08/05/2014
Arcade Fire brought their elaborately staged Reflektor tour to Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Chula Vista CA on Tuesday August 5th. The large indie rock group hailing from Montreal, Quebec, Canada performed an amazing show featuring intricate lights, projections, and various costumed characters throughout the evening. All the way through their 2 hour plus set they encouraged the crowd to get up on their feet and dance. The setlist featured many songs from their newest album also titled Reflektor as well as familiar tracks from 2010’s The Suburbs and 2007’s Neon Bible. Front man Win Butler seemed to attack the stage with a very athletic performance as the rest of the revolving ten piece band followed his lead.
Opening the show was 90’s act Spoon who hail from the great music town of Austin, Texas. This group seemed energized to be playing to so many of their Southern California fans. They are on tour currently supporting a new album titled They Want My Soul. Although dwarfed by Arcade Fire’s large stage setup Britt Daniel and company played a very enjoyable set. The new song “Inside Out” is a great evolution in the band’s sound.
Dj Dan Deacon, an electronic composer from Baltimore Maryland transitioned the crowd between the sounds of the two bands. His short set was full of sound experimentation and manipulation as he blended break beats and tripped out samples into a massive overwhelming soundscape.
