DJ Snoopadelic @ Del Mar Racetrack – 10/08/2020
DJ Snoopadelic, yet another alter ego from multi-talented rapper/actor Snoop Dogg (Snoop Doggy Dog, Snoop Lion) played a fantastic socially distanced concert at the Del Mar Racetrack on Sunday October 4th. The concert was part of a larger series of events featuring artists of many musical genres and movie screenings produced by CBF Productions and entitled “Concerts in Your Car.” Aiming to bring back live musical entertainment in a socially responsible way, the concert series provides a chance for people to experience a live musical performance by world famous artists from the comfort and safety of their cars. Many big name acts are scheduled through October including Slightly Stoopid, Third Eye Blind, The Beach Boys, Sublime with Rome and many more.
It is so exciting to be able to experience live music and entertainment again, and the setup for this series is very well executed for the task. The concerts utilize a huge parking lot at the Del Mar Racetrack with a giant 360 degree stage set up in the middle. In addition to a great sounding speaker system and giant video screens flanking all sides of the stage, the concert is simultaneously broadcast in FM radio to each car, and a Zoom link is sent out with a feed from onstage video cameras. The audience is strongly encouraged to follow all social distancing guidelines and mask requirements, but also strongly encouraged to have fun.
Snoop Dogg seemed a perfect choice for this new concert format, and a packed parking lot of San Diego fans seemed to agree. As a DJ, Snoop spun tons of his own hits, rapped some choice verses and also included a diverse array of songs and collaborations from old and new artists that provided a great fall evening soundtrack. Adapting well to playing to a giant lot of cars, Snoop shouted out to blink the headlights and honk the horn if you were having a good time. A great mix of tailgating fans, young and old, seemed eager to oblige. The Concerts in Your Car series is a very welcome return to live entertainment in San Diego and is a great opportunity to see some of your favorite bands and movies again.
