Feature Article: Dave Schulz
It’s early on a Thursday night, well, early for Hollywood standards, but the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel’s lobby bar is filled with an assortment of people ready to enjoy the offerings of Indie Thurdays.
Dave Schulz is one artist participating in the event. Schulz, a former touring and recording vocalist and keyboardist for artists such as the Goo Goo Dolls, Bo Diddley and The Rembrandts, is performing songs from his debut album, “Connect.”
While it’s difficult to create an intimate setting in an open and sometimes distracting space, Schulz makes it work. A veteran performer, he knows how to put on a show.
He switches from focusing solely on the piano and the music to interacting with his band members and the audience. It’s a relatively calm evening considering the arena tours Schulz has been in. But he wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Being on the sidelines for so many years, there comes a point when it’s time to say, ‘It’s my time,'” said Schulz.
Schulz’s debut is an amalgam of his musical repertoire.
“It’s a good representation of the music that moves me,” he said.
“Connect” moves from infectious power pop to jam session rock while exploring relationships in the new technology and social media driven world.
Even the formation of the album came about through forming relationships the old fashioned way: meet (face-to-face), greet, and so forth.
Schulz is enjoying the opportunity to share his music not only with the community that helped him create it but also with the fans who have been waiting for him to step into the limelight.
Dave’s music is available on iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster and CD Baby, or visit www.daveschulzmusic.com for more information.
