The pop-punk pioneers known as Green Day continued their whirlwind tour of mini-venue performances yesterday at the Red Bull Sound Space within the confines of the World Famous KROQ. The band is currently out promoting their twelfth album’Revolution Radio‘ which was release last Friday. The album debuted at #1 on the US Billboard Top 200.

The band consisting of frontman/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, drummer Tre Cool along with touring members Jason Freese (keys, backing vocals), Jason White (guitar, backing vocals), and Jeff Matika (rhythm Guitar, backing vocals) tore through a powerful thirteen song set which includes many of their hits ncluding songs from Kerplunk (1992), Dookie (1995), American Idiot (2004), and ‘Revolution Radio’ (2016). The band pulled out a few surprises for the fans who were peaking at the set list, by switching things up mid show and replacing Waiting with a J.A.R. which is from the 1995 soundtrack for the movie ‘Angus’ along with Somewhere Now from Revolution Radio, and then adding a live debut of Youngblood from ‘Revolution Radio‘.

Revolution Radio’ is the bands first album since being the youngest band ever to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 2015.  The band secretly worked on and recorded the new album at their studio Otis in Oakland, Califronia, with Bille Joe commenting during the brief Q&A following the performance that the label didn’t even find out that they were working on it until six months ago. The band recorded the album in the studio with just the three members and engineer Chris Dugan.

The Red Bull Sound Space is located within the 106.7 KROQ compound in Los Angeles and has featured many intimate performances over the years from many of today’s top artists such as Jack White, Linkin Park, Sting, Arcade Fire, Banks, Phantogram, and many more.

If you were not lucky enough to score tickets to see this super intimate performance it is being replayed on the Red Bull TV site for the next 24 hours. (http://www.redbull.tv/live/AP-1MJPMEQ5N2111/red-bull-sound-space)

The band will be heading out on a full US tour starting in March of 2017. Curiously there are NO Los Angeles dates yet, and rumors are they could possibly be playing at Coachella (based on their tour routing ending in San Diego 1 week before Coachella starts, however, Billie Joe mentioned in the Q&A that there would be a stadium show in Los Angeles next year – guess we will have to wait and see what happens.
