Halestorm @ Harrah’s Event Center – 08/24/2018
The female-fronted heavy-metal band is commonplace in 2018 and there is none more lethal than Halestorm led by this generation’s “Queen of Metal” Lzzy Hale. A perfect blend of Joan Jett, Pat Benatar and Lita Ford, Hale has the look, attitude, voice and the six-string chops to be an advocate for the female rocker for years to come. Out supporting the July release of their fourth full-length album Vicious, Halestorm spent the summer on the road with fellow female fronted bands In This Moment and New Years Day. The final night of the tour landed in Funner, CA on Friday night August 24 at Harrah’s Resort & Event Center. This night was sure to be one to remember with three of the premier female vocalists on the same stage – Lzzy Hale, Maria Brink and Ash Costello.
New Years Day kicked off the night in fine fashion as vocalist Ash Costello got the crowd going early on. Aside from Costello the band is fairly new even though New Years Day has been around since 2005 but this is without a doubt the best band yet. Costello dedicated a Pantera cover of “Fucking Hostile” to the late Vinnie Paul and Jill Janus. Ending the night with “Defame Me”, New Years Day did a great job priming the crowd for In This Moment.
New Years Day Set List:
Kill Or Be Killed | Fucking Hostile (Pantera cover) | Disgust Me | Scream | Epidemic | Defame Me

Los Angeles theatrical metal monsters In This Moment took the stage in dramatic fashion with the song “Blood” that kicked off a 60-minute spectacle that told a visual story with each song. Vocalist Maria Brink had a new costume for each song with her backing dancers wearing different masks fittingly throughout.
The band consisting of the razor sharp dual guitar attack of Chris Howorth and Randy Weitzel as well as the rhythm section of Travis Johnson on bass and Kent Diimmel on drums wore apocalyptic facepaint and clothing as they layed down some killer heavy metal music. The highlight of the show was the song “Black Wedding” that has Brink do a duet with Ash Costello from New Years Day (Brink sings with Judas Priests Rob Halford on the album) as they sing to each other throughout the song in epic fashion.
The show ended with Brink standing high atop a podium for the song “Whore” as giant balloons were released into the crowd. An epic performance from one of Metal’s premier theatrical bands.
In This Moment Set List:
Blood | River of Fire | Roots | Monster Jam | Black Wedding (with Ashley Costello) | Sick Like Me | Big Bad Wolf | Adrenalize | In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins cover) | Oh Lord | Whore

It had been an amazing night so far with In This Moment and New Years Day but as the saying goes, “Let’s save the best for last” and Halestorm hit the stage with a vengeance opening the show with ”Uncomfortable” off the new album followed by “Mz. Hyde” and “I Am the Fire” getting the show blazing early. The fans were intense and loud and ready to rock-out with Halestorm. Even though it was the last night of the tour, Lzzy was beaming and full of energy as was the remainder of the band – guitarist Joe Hottinger, bass player Josh Smith and Lzzy’s little brother on drums, the hard hitting flamboyant Arejay Hale.
Hale thanked the crowd for coming and stated it was great to be back in CA as she showcased her voice acapella with the beginning of “I Get Off” before transitioning into another new track “Do Not Disturb”. The new album Vicious is just that and full of rockers and slower songs. A natural progression for the band, Vicious is arguably their best music yet and the band is 100% behind the material as they played a total of seven songs from the new disc.
The night focused mostly their heavier, hard rocking material and the fans had no problem headbanging and screaming the lyrics all night long. Lzzy Hale connects with her audience regardless of the size of the arena and is such a positive role model and you could tell by the amount of young females screaming all night long. With this being the last night of the tour there was certainly some end of tour pranks as at the end of the show, Ash Costello and some of the crew came out and toilet papered the band resulting in LOTS of smiles and laughs. Halestorm played a three song encore and ended the night with “Here’s to Us”.
An grand night of music was just experienced and possibly the most epic show Harrah’s will see this year . . . with Halestorm’s Vicious recently released there will no doubt be additional tour dates announced in the US in 2019 which you do not want to miss!
