Hellyeah @ The Regent Theater – 12/18/2019
Hellyeah paid respects to their fallen brother Vinnie Paul by dedicating their 2019 winter tour to him as well as honoring other wonderful musicians we have lost too soon. Hellyeah: A Celebration of Life made a stop at the Regent Theater in Downtown Los Angeles on December 18 and scores of fans came out to show their support. Nonpoint and Deepfall are out on this run, and they did a great job of warming up the crowd on this special night.
The energy in the room was palpable as the audience waited for Hellyeah’s arrival on stage. Fog danced in circles, and once the sound check was completed, the lights went down and the band exploded onto the stage met with screams and cheers. Chad Gray wasted no time jumping into the first couple rows of the crowd to get up close and personal with the fans. With security backing him up, he spent a decent amount of time in the audience during the first few songs of the set. People were able to reach out and touch him, making the night even more special.
The night got a bit emotonal, as Gray gave a short speech about fallen musicians, including Vinnie Paul, Dimebag Darrell and Chris Cornell, leading into the song “Moth to the Flame”. The band played a cover of Pantera’s “Walk” and the entire room exploded into a mosh pit (that even Chad Gray got in on!). Drummer Roy Mayorga sitting in for Vinnie Paul did a fantastic job replicating Paul’s hard hitting drum style and paying tribute to the late drumming legend. All in all, Vinnie Paul would have been pleased with this show as well as the entire tour.
