Swedish progressive metal quintet Katatonia made a triumphant return to Los Angeles on Wednesday night March 29 at the El Rey Theatre for a SOLD OUT performance. Out supporting their 10th release, 2016’s The Fall of Hearts, Katatonia delivered an epic show of dark, sometimes heavy and emotional music that was set just perfect to the dark, moody lighting behind the band.
Opening the night with the new song “Last Song Before the Fade”, the band played four songs in total off The Fall of Hearts and sprinkled in other songs from their back catalog of musical gems. The clean vocals of singer/guitarist Jonas Renkse are mesmerizing as Katatonia is a bit of an acquired taste but nonetheless a metal band in every way. The band ended the night with “July” off their 2006 release The Great Cold Distance.
Opening the show were Caspain and Uncured who both put on memorable performances and did a perfect job warming up those in attendance for Katatonia.
