Maren Morris @ House of Blues Anaheim – 03/28/2019
The Grammy winning country music singer/songwriter Maren Morris released her much anticipated newest album Girl on March 8 and is currently out on the road supporting the release to SOLD-OUT venues everywhere. Morris played the first of three Southern California dates at House of Blues Anaheim on Thursday night March 28 (with two shows at The Wiltern in Los Angeles the following nights) with fellow country star Cassadee Pope who is supporting her February release Stages. The combination of Morris and Pope made for a fun, energetic night that had all in attendance singing and dancing throughout with lots of positive energy flowing in Anaheim.
Cassadee Pope took the stage at 8:00pm and rocked the already packed house. Pope raved about how much fun she has had on this tour and that she along with her crew spent the day at Disneyland the day prior. Taking nothing away from her own music, the crowd really got going with a cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)”.
Pope thanked the crowd for coming out and supporting her but this was not the last Anaheim would see of her on this night.
After a short stage change, the lights darkened and Maren Morris hit the stage and treated the crowd to the title track and first single off the new album “Girl”. Morris sang the song while playing guitar atop a lighted staircase as a live image of her singing was shown on the large video screen backing the stage. She then put down the guitar and the show kicked into high gear with songs such as “80’s Mercedes”, “To Hell & Back” and many more. Morris was obviously having fun onstage and had lots of crowd interaction with those up front. Although a country artists at heart, it is obvious she is greatly influenced by Pop and R&B as she has successfully infused those elements in her music and everybody surely seems to love it.
The early highlight of the show was when Morris invited Pope out on stage for a super-duper fun and rocking version of “All My Favorite People”. The two were electric on stage as they traded off vocals. Additional hits included “Make Out with Me” and the last song of the main set “My Church”. A two song encore included “Shade” and then the night ended with a song she collaborated on with Zedd back in 2018 – “The Middle”, a song combining Morris’ country roots with Zedd’s electronic dance elements and Grey’s Pop influence. A spectacular way to end an incredible performance.
Maren Morris is on top of the music world currently thanks to her album sales and SOLD-OUT shows. She is the real deal, lots of natural talent and a captivating live performer which will have her in the spotlight for years to come. Maren Morris is dedicating the majority of 2019 to being on the road supporting Girl. She continues her trek across the USA through early May before heading over to Europe for a few weeks, then heading back to the States for a few summer festivals then hitting Australia in August.
