Subsurface Tension @ Doll Hut – 03/19/2021
Three months into 2021 and the world is slowly starting to return to a bit of normalcy after the 2020 devastation of COVID 19. One of the biggest hit industries was the entertainment / music biz as live events have been far and few between over the last year, but HEAVY METAL ruled Anaheim on Friday night March 19 as Subsurface Tension along with several other local bands cranked out some live music at The World-Famous Doll Hut. The dozens of fans in attendance were more than thrilled to be out with their battle vests ready to head-bang the night away!
Anaheim based Subsurface Tension is one of, if not the premier Heavy Metal band in the local scene in Southern California, fronted by the super-talented Jen Taylor Warren (you may recognize her name as she was the first singer and co-founder of The Iron Maidens). The band fuses the sounds of 80’s Metal resulting in unique originals that brings to mind bands like Mercyful Fate, Black Sabbath, Grim Reaper and of course Iron Maiden. This band bleeds METAL and is rounded out by veteran guitarist Scott Gray, the hard-hitting drumming of Andy De Leon and bringing the thunderous low end is bass player Freddie Al-Hajj.
The Subsurface Tension single “Devil Pin-up Girl” is featured on The Metal Assault Mixtape: Vol 3 (https://metalassault.bandcamp.com) and they won The Wacken Metal Battle of the Bands Inland Empire in 2020. The band played eight headbanging originals on this night that included their brand-new song “Don’t Ask” as well as a killer cover of Grim Reaper’s “See You in Hell”.
With live events starting to “pop-up” outdoors, keep your eye out for the next Subsurface Tension show and be sure to mark your calendar and grab a ticket – your ears will thank you and your neck will hate you!
