Taylor Swift in 2018 is without a doubt one of the biggest if not the biggest “Pop-Star” in the world having sold millions of albums and now embarking on a HUGE stadium tour in the USA and Canada from May through September. The reputation Stadium Tour made a stop at The Rose Bowl in Pasadena on Friday May 18 for the first night of a two night residency. 60,000 crazed Taylor Swift fans attended this mega event along with opening acts Charli XCX and Camila Cabelo.

One of the drivers for fans to show up early to the venue was to be invited by Taylor Swift to attend an intimate meet and greet with the multi-Grammy winning artist. Apparently the more creative your outfit was the better the change you had of being discovered by her street team and taken to Swift’s throne.

With a giant stage over 100 ft tall her performance began with the Joan Jett anthem “Bad Reputation” before Swift and her dancers kicked off the night with “. . . Ready for It?” off the reputation record. This was the beginning of a 20 song set that included a giant video projection wall behind the stage, lots of pyro-technics, multiple small stages across the floor of the Rose Bowl and she was carried on a chariot between those stages  . . . a show that would put most other stadium tours to shame.

Swift decided to share the spotlight on this night and brought out Shawn Mendes for a duet on the Mendes song “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” (for night 2 the following night she brought out 2 guests – singer/YouTube personality Troye Sivan and one of Swift’s best friends Selena Gomez).

The night had it all, plenty of wardrobe changes, incredible dancing, the use of multiple stages to make the giant show seem more intimate, and Swift taking the stage totally solo with her acoustic guitar for “Dancing with our Hands Tied” and “Red”.

Other highlights included a medley that included “Style / Love Story / You Belong With Me” as well as the last performance of the night with two of her biggest hits back to back – “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things”.
