The Black Eyed Peas @ OC Fair / Pacific Amphitheatre 8/07/09
The Black Eyed Pease got it started last night in front of a sold-out audience at the Pacific Amphitheatre during the OC Fair’s Summer Concert Series. The foursome pounded out a power packed 90 minute set.
“Let’s Get it Started,” from the 2003 breakout album “Elephunk,” not surprisingly opened the show as the Peas bounced around the stage getting the already exceited crowd even more worked into a frenzy. The band kept the energy level high as they quickly jumped into “Don’t Phunk with My Heart” off the 2005 release “Monkey Business” before returning to “Elephunk” for “Shut Up.”
On tour to promote their 2009 release “The E.N.D.” the Peas performed “Rock that Body,” “Meet me Halfway” and “Imma Be” all to furious dancing by the capacity crowd.
Half way through the show a DJ podium was rolled to the center of the stage and the lights dimmed as will.I.am took over the show. Performing a mesmerizing DJ set with the highlight being a tribute to Michael Jackson including samples of “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” and “Thriller” among others.
Then the show quickly turned to “the Fergie show” as she performed her two number one tracks “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Glamorous” off her 2006 solo album “The Duchess.”
The band returned top the stage and pounded out a very hard rock version of “Now Generation” with Fergie wielding a mic stand and ferociously belting out the lyrics. She could easily rival Joan Jett and the other rock goddesses with a rock album.
The band ended the show with a bang, performing their first ever major hit (number 8 on the billboard top 100) “Where is the Love?” from the “Elephunk” album, before ending with their two recent number one hits “I Got a Feeling” and “Boom Boom Pow.”
The show definitely didn’t disappoint those in attendance.
If you want to catch the Peas for yourself you have a few more chances this summer. It is highly rumored and partially verified by a member of the Peas road crew last night that they will be the Surprise Guests at tonights Power 106 Powerhouse at the Honda Center. If you can’t make tonights show they will be headlining the show at the San Diego Street Scene on Friday Aug. 28 as well as opening up for U2 in Pasadena on Oct. 25.
