Yamaha All-Stars @ Yamaha Grand Plaza Stage – 01/26/2018On Friday night January 26th the 2018 NAMM Show was treated to an all-star performance of Yamaha musical artists on the aptly named NAMM Yamaha Grand Plaza Stage in the main courtyard of the Anaheim Convention Center. While being known for amazing private NAMM parties over the years, this was the first time that Yamaha had staged one of their evening concerts in the main plaza in front of the convention center which was open to all NAMM attendees. The artists performing in the show were not actually announced, with Yamaha instead teasing an incredible lineup that built anticipation throughout the day. The area in front of the stage was packed and filled with guests nearly an hour before the scheduled performance and everyone in the audience was given special glow bands that synced to special moments in the concert.

The large assembled crowd was not disappointed, as the lineup for the event turned out to be truly special. Featuring small sets from musical legends like Michael McDonald and Melissa Etheridge, the concert was a tribute to the diversity and talent of artists in the Yamaha musical roster. Other artists included the acrobatic violin styling of Lindsey Sterling, the soulful singer Marc Broussard, rocker/producer Butch Walker, and R&B vocalist Sheléa who performed an original song by the band leader for the evening, bassist Nathan East.

One of the true highlights of the show was a performance by legendary singer and “Soul Man” Sam Moore. Best known as one half of the group “Sam & Dave,” Moore sang his heart out on a cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine” that brought some of the biggest applause of the evening. The show ended with a version of The Doobie Brother’s song “Takin” It to the Streets” led by Michael McDonald and featuring all of the musicians on stage together. The Yamaha Concert was a real representation of the talent, diversity and artistry exemplified by the NAMM Show experience and it was a pleasure to watch and listen.
