Sarah Rogo @ The Canyon Club – 09/24/2017
Singer/songwriter,multi-instrumentalist and guitarist Sarah Rogo only performed six songs (four originals and two covers) during her brief set at the Canyon Club on Sunday September 24 but quickly won the crowd over. Rogo is promoting her latest CD, “Live At Lestat’s West” on Funzalo Records. From the first song she delivered, it was clear Rogo is a talented, emerging artist with serious chops to watch for. Her songs are very strong, coming from a personal and seemingly candid, honest viewpoint.
Sarah Rogo has been compared to legendary icons such as Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan and Robert Johnson. Rogo embraces acoustic country blues and folk. Her voice is both tough and tender, and often soars and hits the high notes. Onstage, Rogo’s demeanor is upbeat and energetic and her animated personality draws one in, and is very infectious and likable. Rogo comes across as a seasoned professional, but has that unique and innate ability, to make everyone in the audience feel a special intimacy, as if she is just talking to them one on one. She is totally relaxed and at ease engaging in-between song banter.
Rogo breathes further into life the material she has written with interesting and funny background stories that compel the listener to want to know more about this rising star who was nominated for Best Singer-Songwriter at the 2017 San Diego Music Awards. And based her show at the Canyon Club, it’s very clear, Sarah Rogo, is on her way to bigger things.
