Y&T @ The Coach House – 04/21/2018
Saturday night April 21st was a GREAT night for Rock n Roll in Orange County as Y&T made a stop on their current tour at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. Since 1983 with one of their top hit albums “Meanstreak” Y&T are still rocking some 30 years later. Formed initially as Yesterday and Today, featuring Dave Meniketti (lead guitar/lead vocals) he still is fronting this fantastic band along with current members, Mike Vanderhule on drums, John Nymann on rhythm guitar, and Aaron Leigh on bass. With a catalog of 13 studio albums and 6 live albums, they continue to rock old fans and new all over the world. Y&T hit songs have had extensive airplay along with tracks making their way to feature movies and TV shows.
Playing to a sold-out audience, the old saying of “The Crowd Goes Wild” proved itself here on this night at The Coach House. One cannot help but to admire these bands that can survive along with their hits for some 30 years and get up on stage and provide their fans with a solid couple of hours of pure rock, playing all the major hits with just as much energy and passion as they had back in the eighties with thier large arena shows. Meniketti’s vocals were on point, and the band was tight, still rocking the arrangements as good as ever.
With hits such as “Lipstick & Leather”, “Don’t Stop Running” and “Hurricane” – the crowd could not just sit in their seats, these songs demanded some “moving and grooving”. The hits kept coming, “Mean Streak”, “Black Tiger” and of course “Midnight In Tokyo”. And a few newer tracks were introduced to the fans which were well received such as “Blind Patriot”, “Shine On” and “Facemelter”.
Midway through the performance, some fantastic solo’s took place from some blazing guitar runs from Meniketti to solid baselines from Leigh and a power drum solo from “Nymann”.
The show opened with the band Hipnostic, who have been playing all over the Orange and LA County opening for National Acts. These guys rocked and succeeded with warming up the audience with their incredible talent. This solid trio, Blake Hastings, Rob Swanson and Marty Wilcox kicks out the jams with solid riffs, power grooves, and confident, lyrical writing and they bring the rock-heavy music to every one of their concerts, Hipnostic will not disappoint.
